My new blog

My new blog

I’m not sure I like the word “blog.” Maybe journal. Online journal. IDK.

Whatever the term, I’m going to reduce my connection socially and to the outside world and try to understand photographs and images at a deeper level.

I guess the truth is I have always just coasted and relied on my ability to convince people of things—to do things, give me things, sell things. In a sense I’ve sold myself and not really known myself.

I’m not against business or capitalism and am thankful it has supported my life. But to be good at it you often have to be someone you’re not. That is almost the exact opposite of what you have to be to be creative.

My return to being creative follows a few years of sacrificing everything about who I am in order to obtain financial freedom.

If we are more than territorial primates who specialize in hoarding resources, what are we? That’s a job I assume for philosophers. Photography, though, is the one medium that can isolate pieces of this world, display them, and offer an infinitesimal moment to see truth. What I have learned from this divide—between the hyperactive drive for temporary wealth via capitalism and everything else—is that we go into a tunnel of efficiency. A relentless drive to lower cost and charge the highest creates an environment that is less, not more, than what we have traditionally had as humans.

I am just a guy with a camera and a sketchbook. So here I will share the thoughts and images along the way.
